And you’re like, why?

This is my default tumblr, but not my real blog. This is a side project of mine that is currently on hiatus. I made it before I understood that I would be bound to it forever on tumblr…which is pretty dumb, but w/e that’s between tumblr and I, not me and you.

If I added you, I either know you or like your posts and think we have things in common that I like about people.

Anyway, if you wanna follow my life stuff, including but not limited to- fat politics and fashion, queerness, gender stuff, thrift, art, crafts, photos, feminism, sex, vegetarianism, and wandering around aimlessly, you should add me on my personal account-

These 1950s party dresses are in perfect condition and pictures don’t begin to do them justice.

It’s always a blast shooting with Eve and this was my first shoot with Zena Bat! (Who makes the cutest music ever and you should check her out if you’re ever in Portland.)

I have so many more clothes to shoot and so little time. Starting a store is no easy feat, y’all, really. Between finding the clothes, shooting the models, editing the pictures, making the listings and figuring out how to get views on Etsy, it’s like a full time job.

More on that forthcoming…

But for now, time for sleep!

On Christmas- Vintage Brooks and Dunn Western Deco shirt…aka one of the most amazing shirts I’ve ever seen. Aka the source of much sadness to see it be put up for sale. (Several models wanted this shirt for themselves! I don’t blame them.)

On Christmas- 70s cat eye shades, vintage denim and leather new wave jacket by Western Ethics, vintage Lee highwaisted shorts (as also seen on Juniper!)

Christmas is always a joy to work with. We’ve actually been working together for going on nearly five years now. He’s a huge part of Bone Feather behind the scenes and is photographing some accessories for the shop later today. (He’s one of my favorite artists to boot in his spare time, too.)

After our shoot yesterday, we went hunting for some more beautiful things and came up with what is perhaps one of the most gorgeous late 40s, early 50s dresses that I’ve ever seen. I’m saving it to shoot with Jill when we go to Chicago next month, because I can’t think of a better piece to break up for our seven month separation. (And I also found myself an amazing 60s Square Dance circle skirt- the very skirt of my dreams! But that’s another post entirely.)

Anyway, I’m continuing to work on getting everything up and running in the shop. Just dropping by with some sweet vintage eye candy.

On Juniper- 60s lace party dress, 70s southwestern belt, floppy hat by H&M

On Eve- Vintage Jessica McClintock by Scott McClintock bridal skirt, corset and bowtie (model’s own), 50s cross necklace.

On Juniper- 80s acid washed high waisted skirt with stripe details, 70s southwestern belt, 80s Egyptian-style studded cut sleeve shirt, 70s shades, and 80s deco purse.

On Eve- 60s iridescent party dress with chiffon collar, tights (model’s own).

And yeah, if that dress had fit me, I would absolutely be keeping it for myself! It is SO cool. Eve even tried to barter it out of my possession! Ha! Not that I can blame them, they look so good in it.

It was so much fun working with Juniper again and Eve for the first time! Isn’t Eve a total doll?

All items will be available for sale by the end of the weekend in Bone Feather’s shop.

We get to shoot some bois today. I’m so excited! The store is gonna be ready to roll by the end of the weekend.

Also, it’s not as hot today as it’s been all week, thankfully. The fall intention-setting is perhaps beginning to manifest?

On Juniper- 80s structured blouse, vintage Lee highwaisted shorts, vintage Sesto Merucci pumps, late 70s round shades.

On Pinks- 80s fitted batwing sweater, vintage Calvin Klein shorts, vintage scalloped heel electric blue pumps, early 70s cat eye shades.

On Pinks- a stunning early 70s lace prairie-revival dress, remade 50s cross necklace

On Juniper- late 60s southwestern print vest, early 70s tile triangle necklace, early 70s cat eye shades

(All items will be available by the end of the weekend at Bone Feather’s shop!)

Aren’t Juniper and Pinks the cutest couple ever?

We’re continuing shooting today with Juniper and a secret model that I’m really stoked to work with. I just got really excited by how these turned out yesterday and wanted to share a few of them.

This week has been really exciting! Since deciding to start the Bone Feather shop, I’ve spent practically all my energy getting things ready for it- and let me tell you, it’s gonna be good, yall! Everything from hunting for the right pieces to planning shoots for the first lookbook, down to tweaking the layout of this blog…it’s been hectic.

I’m really proud of myself for getting so much done, considering the weather is killing me here! It’s almost 90 right now. I grew up in the Carolinas, so there was a time in my life when I was alright with even 100+ degree weather…unfortunately, living in Chicago and Portland have altered my heat tolerance. Now I feel like I’m drowning inside of an oven, inside of a dog’s mouth. Fall is my favorite time of the year, so I just wish it would get here sooner!

I see the shadows getting longer, the days getting shorter, and the colors getting a tiny bit more gold-infused and it just echos thoughts of crisp mornings, squash, pumpkins, visiting friends, and staying inside a little longer to cuddle and read.

It’s also got me nostalgic about some of the fall looks that my gorgeous friend Pumpkin modeled for me last year. This one was my favorite…

Jill modeling for a lookbook we did last fall.

Jill models again.

We start shooting the Late Summer- Early Fall lookbook tomorrow for Bone Feather and it makes me really sad that Pumpkin’s all the way in Chicago. She’s one of my closest friends and I love photoshooting with her so much. I really think she has one of the most interesting and beautiful faces around…but maybe I just love her, so I’m a little biased? ;o

I’ll be visiting Pumpkin back in Chicago soon enough, but until then, I have some lovely friends who’ll be modeling for the lookbook here in Oregon. The locations are secret for now, but you’ll see soon enough! Expect to see some denim, some leather, fringe, lace, and truly wonderful, unique pieces modeled by some of Portland’s coolest people.

I’m taking some inspiration for this shoot from this vintage pin-up picture…as well as some mutual interest between yours truly and the models. It’s gonna be good, yall, like I said, so watch for it!

In the meantime, start thinking fall and it’ll be here before you know it! (It’s already here in some places.) This means beginning to consider jackets, sweaters, and all those intricate layers that give you so many chances to remix, harden, and soften what’s become your basic summer looks. If you’re thinking about going for something new, changing seasons are totally the time to do it without being shocking. But if you want to be shocking, then, really, more power to you!
